Smile Diner Vancouver

A Vancouver landmark restaurant. This Diner restaurant has been around for years, it is a eating house that I’ve never ventured into. Same restaurant as a while back only in colour and with a nice new lick of paint .. It’s now called a diner instead of a restaurant .. Still haven’t ventured inside though.

I’ve heard various reviews, both good and bad so I’ll save judgement until I venture through the doors. I’ve never been a fan of online reviews.. You never know where they are really coming from, and also people tend to seek out places to review a place only if they have a bad experience.

The MOTTO of SMILE DINER – BAD FOOD, BAD SERVICE, CREDIT CARD FRAUD!
The story how the manager charged $38 for $17 dinner!

Recently we’ve been in Vancouver and after a long walk around the city, came in into that diner just because we were too tired to look for some better place and hoping to find some simple food for a appropriate price.
What we found there became an experience of our life: a dump place with terrible food (could that be heated leftovers from other clients’ plates a week ago? – we did not eat it), with no normal service ( we had to repeat request for a water – the manager was very intrusive and made a face “cheap folks” – in this diner it’s not customary to drink water at 1pm, it appeared later that insulting customers is just a little entertainment he allows himself when he is bored when the day is slow).

When we wanted to pay, the manager, told us that “they never for last 50 yeas gave a bill to clients” – very soon we understood that this is a very wise policy: if the manager overcharges clients with some dirty tricks like he did to us, it’s very convenient that clients do not have bills.

When I came with the credit card to pay, the manager showed all his tricks he uses to insult, overcharge, manipulate with clients and credit cards and payment devices. It was especially easy for him that as without my glasses I had problem seeing text on the screen. The manager asked me how much I wanted to tip. The food was $17 for both of us, no service, bad food. I said “$1″. “Oh, you are cheap” – said that grand kid of Ham, son of Noah, with the dirty smile he already demonstrated to us. “So $19″ said he. I decided not to argue for $1 – just pay and go from that dump, and insert the credit card pin. He suddenly started crying loudly that I am slow that the transaction was cancelled and I have to repeat the payment, I said that I just insert the pin, but he, not listening to me, pressing buttons with such a speed and added $19 again as for the payment that I missed. It was really an attack! I was confused with his attack, and decided that something maybe went wrong with my payment and insert pin again. The receipt was printed for $38. “See you paid twice” he said me showing the receipt. “But I am honest, I will return you $19″. I could not say a word starting understanding that this guy is manipulating me for being “cheap”. “How much you want back” continues that “honest” …. (I use dots to avoid bad words!): “$10?” – he is shining making that dirty joke. “OK, I’ll give you &5 more” said he: “because I am honest!” repeated he again and put $5 more. I am completely stunned (my husband was waiting for me outside) .
I say I want the rest. He repeats that he is “honest” again and put some more change. Later I understood that it was only $2 instead of $4.

So that man, the fat grand kid of Ham, son of Noah, showed us a class with manipulation people and credit card fraud,

As a result we don’t have the bill, the receipt (because he put it back where I could not see it). But the guy forgot that I can claim that as a credit card fraud and refuse to pay half of this.

Great colours in this shot .. I believe I went to this place years ago when I was visiting friends in Vancouver, that was about 15 years ago! wonderful that it is still open.
    Keep up the great work
